Vegetables in a Cat's Diet
As obligate carnivores, cats do not require vegetables in their diet, but certain veggies can be offered in tiny amounts as occasional treats. Steamed carrots, green beans, and cucumber slices are generally safe and can provide hydration and fiber. However, onions, garlic, chives, and leeks are extremely toxic to cats β even more potent than for dogs β and can cause oxidative damage to red blood cells leading to hemolytic anemia. Raw vegetables can also be difficult for cats to digest properly. Vegetables should never replace meat in a cat's diet. If you're unsure about any vegetable, search it above to get an instant feline safety rating.
