Can Cats Eat Marshmallows?
Marshmallows offer cats nothing but risk. The high sugar content can provoke vomiting and diarrhea, while sugar-free varieties containing xylitol can cause fatal liver necrosis in felines. Cats lack sweet taste receptors and derive no pleasure or nutritional benefit; the sticky texture may adhere to the esophagus or cause choking. Moreover, the empty calories displace essential meat-based nutrition. All marshmallows, regular or sugar-free, should be kept far from cats.
