Vegetables in an Avian Diet
Vegetables are an essential part of a healthy avian diet, providing critical vitamins and minerals that seeds alone cannot supply. Dark leafy greens like kale, spinach, and romaine lettuce, along with chopped carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, and sweet potatoes, are excellent nutrient-dense choices for most pet birds. However, certain vegetables like raw onions, garlic, and mushrooms contain compounds toxic to birds and should never be offered. Vegetables should be washed thoroughly and cut into appropriately sized pieces for your bird species. Aim for vegetables to make up roughly 20-25% of your bird's daily food intake. Check any vegetable in our database above before feeding.
