Fruit Safety for Pet Birds

Fruits are a valuable component of a balanced avian diet, providing essential vitamins, antioxidants, and hydration. Many birds enjoy safe fruits like apples (without seeds), bananas, berries, melons, and mangoes. However, avocado contains persin, a fungicidal toxin that is highly lethal to most bird species and can cause respiratory distress and sudden death within hours. Fruit pits and seeds from apples, cherries, peaches, and plums contain trace cyanide compounds that are also dangerous. Even safe fruits should be washed thoroughly and cut into small, manageable pieces. Always introduce new fruits gradually and monitor your bird's reaction. Search our avian database above before offering any fruit to your feathered companion.
